Welcome!

Welcome to the Upper Credit Humane Society's
“Foster Kitten Program”!

We are a small group of volunteers who operate this unique program for the UCHS.

In 2008 we found homes for 186 kittens. We are hoping that in 2009 the number will be lower but people are still not getting the message and having their pets neutered.

The kittens are back at Pet Valu Saturday, July 11th from 11 to 2 pm!...

The following kittens will be showcased:

Chocolate Chip, Coconut, Cream, Echo, Yaris, Sequoia, Crosby, Joico, PT Cruiser, Sebring, Tuesday, Sunday, Tonka, Angel, Petal, Cloudy, Sunshine, Rocky

(We are not responsible for any of the listed kittens not being at Pet Valu on this date)

If you are interested in a kitten, please come by and see us at Pet Valu.

Our kittens will be back at WalMart (Georgetown)in the Spring

Most of the kittens that come to the shelter are placed in our care until they are old enough to be adopted out. Our kittens live with Foster families and are treated as members of that household. All of our kittens have their first set of injections, are spayed or neutered, dewormed and micro-chipped prior to adoption. The kittens will be with the Foster family until they reach the minimum requirement of - 10 weeks old and a weight of 2+ lbs before they have the necessary surgery. Around the 10 week period we will post pictures of the kittens that are just about or are ready for adoption, so watch this site regularly. If you are looking for something specific, e-mail your request and we will try and help you. The Foster families play a major role in the care and socializing of the kittens, so in return we ask that the kitten be kept in safety as an indoor cat and have no further cosmetic surgery.

Okay... so show me the kittens!

For more information on how to meet our kittens, please e-mail us at uchskittens@gmail.com and please be sure to include a phone number where we can contact you! Due to the high demand, our kittens will be adopted to the first approved family.

Adoption Fees and details

The kitten adoption fee is $140.00 including tax (CASH ONLY).

This fee includes spaying or neutering, the first set of vaccinations, deworming, and micro chipping.

Kittens are ready for adoption at 10 weeks of age (or over 2 lbs)and after surgery.

As all of the kittens are in foster homes, we must respect our Foster Families and their activities, so home visits are not available. Please send us an e-mail about the kitten you would like to see and we will let you know when and where they will be showcased.

A $60.00 non-refundable, non-transferable, deposit may be given to hold a kitten until time of final adoption.

All adopters must first have an adoption interview and complete a questionnaire to be approved to adopt a kitten. Click here to download a copy of the questionnaire – please be sure to bring this with you.

Enough already... show me the kittens!

For more information, please e-mail us at uchskittens@gmail.com and please be sure to include a phone number where we can contact you!

Can you help Josie find a Forever Home?

Josie is 3-Year-Old DLH Dilute Grey Tortie (Female) She has flecks of Beige and White throughout. We have found homes for her kittens and are now hoping to find a home for her. She is very friendly once she gets to know you, it takes some patience to get her to trust new people, but she has come a long way. She isn’t what you would call a lap cat, but wants attention and she will sit with you on occasion. She will greet you at the front door to make sure she gets noticed. She's fairly talkative, and will come running, mewing when you call her. She LOVES playing with catnip pouches, springs and toy mice, especially when you play “catch”. Josie would be best suited in a home with no children, dogs or dominant cats.

If you are interested in making her part of your family, please e-mail us at uchskittens@gmail.com

Can you help make a difference?

During the 2008 season we did! The kitten foster program made a big difference in over 185 kitten’s lives. Many would not have seen 2009 or if they did, would have added to the feral cat population. Did you know that by breaking the reproductive cycle hundreds and hundreds of unwanted kittens will not suffer the hardships of trying to survive outside?

After last year’s bumper crop of kittens we know that we are going to need a lot more help! Our Director found herself over whelmed at times last year, so this year we would like to organise a full support team. This team will need to work very closely with one another as each set of responsibilities overlaps' on the next.

We are looking for volunteers who can support the Director by taking responsibility for duties such as:
Intake coordinator, Scheduler for vet visits, Traffic coordinator for transporting the kittens to appointments or to show, Foster coordinator, Website updater, Advertising, Fund raising and of course we are always looking for more Foster Families. We have had some new volunteers come forward but we will need more.

We know a lot of you can’t take in kittens as Foster families but we are hoping you can help with some of these jobs.

If you would like more information please email us at uchskittens@gmail.com .
